Die Serie A ist die höchste Spielklasse im italienischen Fußball und seit der Saison 5 in das BMO-Universum integriert.
Bis zur Saison 8 bestand die Serie A aus 18 Vereinen, seit der Saison 9 sind es 20 Klubs.
Jeder Verein der Liga tritt in Hin- und Rückspielen gegen jeden anderen Verein der 1. Liga an. Die Mannschaft mit den meisten Punkten aus allen Spielen wird italienischer Meister, bei Punktgleichheit entscheidet das Torverhältnis. Ist auch dieses gleich, wird der Verein mit den mehr erzielten Toren Meister.
Aus der Serie A steigen die letzten drei Mannschaften in die Serie B, die zweithöchste Spielklasse, ab.

Internationale Qualifikation
Europaliga
Für die Europaliga qualifiziert sich in jedem Fall der portugiesische Meister.
Ein zweiter EL-Startplatz, der für die Saison 18 für Portugal vorgesehen war, wurde aufgrund der 3-Jahres-Wertung nachträglich gestrichen.
Ab der Saison 21 stand der SuperLiga nach der 3-Jahres-Wertung neben dem Meister ein weiterer Europaliga-Startplatz für den Vizemeister zu. Ab der Saison 22 erhöhte sich die Zahl der EL-Startplätze aufgrund der 3-Jahres-Wertung sogar auf drei.
Das international wenig erfolgreiche Auftreten der portugiesischen Vereine führte allerdings dazu, dass ab der Saison 24 wieder nur ein Vertreter der SuperLiga an der EL teilnehmen durfte.

Europacup
Auch die Startplätze für den Europacup werden nach der 3-Jahres-Wertung vergeben. Teilnahmeberechtigt ist aber in jedem Fall der Sieger des Taca de Portugal. Weitere Startplätze werden über die EC-Qualifikation vergeben, über die sich erstmals in der Saison 23 ein portugiesischer Verein für den EC qualifizieren konnte.
Die wenigsten EC-Teilnehmer hatte Portugal in den Anfangsjahren. In den Saisons 8 und 9 durften jeweils nur zwei Vereine im Europa-Cup starten.
Die höchste Zahl an EC-Teilnehmer verzeichnete Portugal in der Saison 24, in der gleich 6 Klubs im Europa-Cup starten durften.

Absteiger
Die Mannschaften, die am Ende der Saison auf den Plätzen 16 bis 18 stehen, müssen die SuperLiga in Richtung Liga de Honra verlassen. Folgende Mannschaften sind bisher abgestiegen:
"Rekordabsteiger" sind somit der FC Maia und CD Santa Clara, die jeweils bereits fünfmal abgestiegen sind.
Aufsteiger
Aus der Liga de Honra steigen jede Saison der Zweitligameister sowie der Zweit- und Drittplatzierte in die SuperLiga auf. Folgende Mannschaften sind bisher aufgestiegen:
Rekordaufsteiger sind somit der FC Maia und CD Santa Clara, die beide bereits fünfmal in die SuperLiga aufgestiegen sind (der FC Maia davon viermal als Zweitliga-Meister!)
