Aktuelle Version

Der Commander Cup ist der Pokalwettbewerb des seit der Saison 46 bestehenden Länderverbunds Großbritannien und Irland. An ihm nehmen die 18 Vereine der GBI Premier League und die 12 Vereine der GBI Seconde League, ergänzt durch 2 weitere Vereine teil. Bis zur Saison 49 nahmen auch die 18 Vereine der GBI Third League teil.

Vorgängerwettbewerbe waren in England der FA-Cup, in Schottland der SFA-Cup und in Irland der FAI Cup.

Der Wettbewerb ist nach dem ehemaligen BMO-Manager Commander benannt, der 2015 verstorben ist.

Spielmodus

Es wird im pokaltypischen KO-System gespielt. Das Teilnehmerfeld umfasst 32 (bis zur Saison 49 64) Vereine, welche in insgesamt fünf (bis zur Saison 49 sechs) Runden den Sieger ermitteln.

Der Sieger wird jeweils in einem Spiel ermittelt, das ggf. verlängert wird. Fällt auch in der Verlängerung keine Entscheidung, folgt ein Elfmeterschießen.

Das Endspiel findet abwechselnd in England (dort stets im Wembley-Stadion in London), Irland, Schottland, Nordirland und Wales statt.
