Die Asienmeisterschaft wird alle zwei Jahre während des Saisonübergangs veranstaltet. Unter 8 Nationalmannschaften Asiens und Ozeaniens wird dabei der "Asienmeister" ermittelt. Die jeweiligen Halbfinalisten sind für die folgende Weltmeisterschaft qualifiziert.
Die Asienmeisterschaft wird seit Anbeginn von zwei Teams bestimmt: Australien und Japan, die bislang alle Asienmeisterschaften unter sich ausgespielt haben.
