Die SuperLiga ist die höchste Spielklasse im portugiesischen Fußball und seit der Saison 8 in das BMO-Universum integriert.
Jeder Verein der Liga tritt in Hin- und Rückspielen gegen jeden anderen Verein der 1. Liga an. Die Mannschaft mit den meisten Punkten aus allen Spielen wird portugiesischer Meister. Aus der SuperLiga steigen die letzten drei Mannschaften in die Liga de Honra, die zweithöchste Spielklasse, ab.

Internationale Qualifikation
Europaliga
Für die Europaliga qualifiziert sich derzeit lediglich der portugiesische Meister.
Ein zweiter EL-Startplatz, der für die Saison 18 für Portugal vorgesehen war, wurde aufgrund der 3-Jahres-Wertung nachträglich gestrichen.
Europacup
Am Europacup dürfen derzeit diejenigen Vereine teilnehmen, die in der Vorsaison Platz 2 bis 5 der SuperLiga erreicht haben. In der Saison 10 und 11 gaben auch noch der 6. Platz eine Startberechtigung für den EC. Zuvor (Saisons 8 und 9) durften nur der Zweite und der Dritte am Europacup teilnehmen.

Absteiger
Die Mannschaften, die am Ende der Saison auf den Plätzen 16 bis 18 stehen, müssen die SuperLiga in Richtung Liga de Honra verlassen. Folgende Mannschaften sind bisher abgestiegen:
"Rekordabsteiger" sind somit FC Maia, Varzim SC und SC Salgueiros, die jeweils bereits dreimal abgestiegen sind.
Aufsteiger
Aus der Liga de Honra steigen jede Saison der Zweitligameister sowie der Zweit- und Drittplatzierte in die SuperLiga auf. Folgende Mannschaften sind bisher aufgestiegen:
Rekordaufsteiger sind somit CD Santa Clara, FC Pacos de Ferreira, SC Salgueiros, Varzim SC und der FC Maia, die jeweils bereits dreimal in die SuperLiga aufgestiegen sind.
