Bei der Formauswertung zur Winterpause gab es großen Jubel beim FC Porto. Der Capitano, der 37-jährige Javier Mascherano, der zum Ende der Vorsaison eine Altersabwertung erlitten hatte, konnte sich wieder auf "seine" Spielstärke 10 hocharbeiten. Besonders für Manager Joernie war das eine Bestätigung, an ihm als Führungsfigur festgehalten zu haben.
Von der Bedeutung her wesentlich wichtiger war aber noch die Aufwertung von Jaime Leandro auf Spielstärke 11. Leandro wird mit seinen 31 Jahren hoffentlich noch viele Jahre auf diesem Niveau spielen, während Mascherano seine definitiv letzte Profisaison absolvierte.
Es gab aber auch noch eine absolute Top-Aufwertung: Porto's Stürmerstar Veiga wurde - trotz seiner 36 Jahre - nochmals um eine Stufe aufgewertet und trat nur mit Spielstärke 12 an! Er war damit der erste 12er in der Geschichte des FC Porto. Aber das war noch nicht alles! Veiga war damit für den Rest der Saison 29 BMO-weit der nominell beste Stürmer! Es gab nämlich außer ihm keinen weiteren 12er-Stürmer weltweit!
Spieltaktisch ebenfalls von größter Bedeutung war die Aufwertung von Tayfur Tandogan auf Stärke 10. Der 30-jährige Türke Tandogan schlüpfte damit in die Rolle des neuen Abwehrchefs, die seit der altersbedingten Abwertung von Hugo Joel vakant war.
Eine erfreuliche Perspektive für die Zukunft ergab sich aus der Aufwertung des Mittelfeldspielers Jão Luís Sampaio Silva (28) auf 9 sowie des Stürmers Rino Gianbruno (26) auf Spielstärke 8.

Natürlich war es klar, dass es im Viertelfinale der EL keinen leichten Gegner mehr geben würde. Trotzdem hätte es nicht gleich eines der absolut stärksten Teams des BMO-Universums sein müssen, das sich dem FC Porto in den Weg stellte: der 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Die Pfälzer, seit der Saison 13 betreut vom Manager -Neo-, sind nicht nur zweimaliger EL-Gewinner und aktueller EC-Sieger, sechsfacher Deutscher Meister und zweifacher Deutscher Pokalsieger, sondern auch nominell mit einer Stärke von 122,5 nahezu jedem Gegner überlegen. Das Team war gespickt mit Nationalspielern, allen voran dem englischen Mittelfeldstar Karl Scott (31/12). In der Zentrale der Lauterer spielten aber mit dem 30-jährigen Norweger Stig Inge Kjølø (11), dem 31-jährigen Albanier Besart Ibrahimi (11) und dem 36-jährigen Thorsten Preetz drei weitere Ausnahmekönner. Ein stärker besetztes Mittelfeld wird kaum zu finden sein. Stark besetzt waren auch die Torwartposition mit dem 11er Anderson Gladstone (36) sowie die Mittelstürmerrolle mit dem 35-jährigen Norweger Jan Tore Bergdolmo (11), der ja viele Jahre beim FC Vitoria Setubal gespielt hatte. Auch die Abwehr verfügte über eine überragende Spielerpersönlichkeit: der 31-jährige Grieche Apostolos Centeno ist ebenfalls ein 11er! In Kaiserslautern's Mannschaft befand sich zudem auch ein aktueller portugiesische Nationalspieler: der Stürmer Tomané (35/10), ehemals ebenfalls für den FC Vitoria Setubal aktiv. Neben Tomané befanden sind noch noch weitere drei Spieler der Stärke 10 im Aufgebot der Roten Teufel. Insgesamt also ein mehr als furchteinflössendes Potenzial. Furchteinflössend waren auch die Erinnerungen des FC Porto an den 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Der letzte Auftritt der Portuenser in der Europa-Liga, das war in Saison 23, warf wer den FC Porto aus dem Wettbewerb? Genau, der 1. FC Kaiserslautern mit einem 5:5 in Porto und einem 7:6 n.V. auf dem Betzenberg. Hoffnung schöpften die Azuis e Brancos aber aus der aktuellen Vorrunde. Dort konnten sie den 1. FC Kaiserslautern - wie oben bereits erwähnt - immerhin zweimal besiegen.
