Weil Joernie den Vertrag mit Trainer Jörn Andersen nicht rechtzeitig verlängert hatte, zog der Norweger nach vier äußerst erfolgreichen Jahren in Salzburg mit einem CL-Sieg, zwei Meisterschaften und zwei Pokalsiegen weiter und unterschrieb beim deutschen Bundesligsten 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig. Die Austria hoffte, die so glückliche Periode mit einem Norweger fortzusetzen, mit 57-jährigen Kjetil-André Rekdal (10). Rekdal hatte zuletzt den norwegischen Spitzenklub Rosenborg BK zur skandinavischen Vizemeisterschaft geführt. Er hatte auch sogar bereits Erfahrungen in Österreich gesammelt. In der Saison 58 gelang ihm mit dem FC Wacker Innsbruck der Aufstieg in die erste Liga.

Die Saison hat noch gar nicht richtig begonnen, da trauert man in Salzburg schon dem ehemaligen Trainer Jörn Andersen hinterher (jetzt 1. FC Lok Leipzig). Sein Nachfolger und Landsmann Kjetil-André Rekdal steht mit der Austria vor dem Aus in der CL-Vorrunde und im nationalen Pokalwettbewerb und nun musste er auch noch einen 0-Punkte-TAT zum Start der Liga Alpe-Adria A hinnehmen. Nicht unerwähnt bleiben soll allerdings das außergewönliche Verletzungspech der Mozartstädter, die sowohl in der Liga als auch in der Champions League mit einer stark ersatzgeschwächten Elf antreten mussten, aufgefüllt mit drei Amateurspielern. Trotzdem ist man in Salzburg über diesen Fehlstart per excellence fassungslos.
